After buying Kiwi Mortgage Market Petone in 2009, Brendon decided to launch The Mortgage and Insurance Shop in April 2014.
Over the last 14 years since becoming a broker/advisor, the services we can provide our clients have increased and changed. What started as providing Home Loans, Advice and a bit of Business and Commercial lending now extends to a Full Financial Service model which now encompasses Home Loans, Business and Commercial Lending, Personal Insurances, Asset and Vehicle Finance. We also offer continued servicing of loans that we arranged for our clients (ie re fixing of interest rates, small top ups etc). We think the business name really defines the business that we are in.
As advisors, we know that ‘one shoe doesn’t fit everyone’. We have access to more than 20 lenders, insurers and financial providers and understand the market and what lending criteria is at any particular point in time, to allow us to find the best bank or insurer to meet your needs.

Brendon May
Owner & Advisor
Brendon May started in the banking industry in 1998 as a Teller for a main NZ Bank. Over the next 10 years, he worked for 3 different banks, specialising in Business, Corporate and Commercial banking, as well as setting up a new business channel for a main bank.
In September 2007, Brendon May started Contracting as a Mortgage Broker for Kiwi Mortgage Market based in Petone, using his local knowledge of the Hutt Valley (having lived there all his life) and his business contacts. Brendon brought this business in 2009.
Brendon’s experience in all fields of finance from First Home Buyers to Investors, Commercial, Business and Insurance products provides his clients with comfort knowing he is looking after their best interests, security and their families.
Brendon’s services are not just limited to the Hutt Valley. Brendon has clients through the Greater Wellington region, most main NZ Centres as well as around the World.
Brendon is a Financial Advisor (FSP71241).
In Brendon’s spare time he loves to spend time with his 2 young children and wife as well as competing in triathlons. He’s completed the NZ Ironman 3 times and represented New Zealand at the world champs in 2017 and 2019 in Canada and Spain.
